Dupatas are the beautiful, colorful scarves that Indian women wear with their Selwar Chamise outfits.

We went into a local market in Delhi and discovered a feast of different designs, fabrics, and color combinations. This project is a new development in support of our Tibetan family in Dharamsala who handles the buying and shipping for us.

Beaded Silk Tie Dye Dupatas

Pure silk scarves can be very slippery. The artisans of this line added a beaded edge to these long dupatas that holds them gently in place and gives a delicious dancing feeling as they sway with the body’s movement. The dying process requires the material to be twisted and tied for each color.

Twisted, dyed, re-twisted, dyed. Beaded. All by hand.

Indra’s Net

"There is an endless net of threads throughout the universe.
The horizontal threads are in space.
The vertical threads are in time.
At every crossing of the threads, there is an individual.
And every individual is a crystal bead.
And every crystal bead reflects not only the light from every other crystal in the net,
but also every other reflection throughout the entire universe"

--The Rig Veda (Rig Veda version by Frank Joseph)

Hand-Embroidered Pakistani Dupatas

These dupatas are very full and can be worn as a shawl. They are intricately hand-embroidered by women in Pakistan.

Hand Embroidered Georgette Viscose (items 1-10): Made from a very fine, transparent spun plant fiber, these dupatas are hand dyed. Each one has a different flower motif.

Black Georgette Silk (item 11): Riot of Flowers. This is an exceptional work of art. The flowers are all colors, the material so fine it seems to disappear.
